Luana Oliveira graduated from law school in 2006 and worked as a lawyer for 5 years. Having grown up listening to mission reports, she always felt a desire to be a missionary overseas. She was able to serve in the Amazon for 1 year and 4 months, and during this time felt God calling her to leave her law career. In 2015 she received the opportunity to come to the United States and join CAMPUS ministries in Lansing, Michigan. Afterwards, she was called to put into practice what she had learned as a volunteer at Great Lakes Adventist Academy. Luana enjoys talking with family and friends, reading, walking in nature, taking pictures, learning about other cultures, playing the ukulele and doing Chinese boxing. Her favorite Bible verse is 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 which says, “Jabez was more respected than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, for she said, ‘I experienced pain when I gave birth to him.’ Jabez called out to the God of Israel, ‘If only you would greatly bless me and expand my territory! May your hand be with me! Keep me from harm so I might not endure pain!’ God answered his prayer.”
